Southern Lotus Register Transalpine
Background
The first Transalpine took place in the early seventies when two Lotus owners journeyed in a Lotus Elan S4 and a Lotus Seven S4 from Christchurch over the Arthurs Pass and on to the Glaciers in South Westland. The concept of the Transalpine was born. The event resumed in earnest from the late 1980s and has been held every year since.
The Transalpine experience is about Lotus motoring in the grand tradition over some of the country’s best roads, typically experiencing the breath-taking journey across the Southern Alps, taking in the stunning scenery and relaxing in fun and fellowship with participants over a beer and dinner at the end of the day.
Each year we run the event over 3 days in late October early November each year to enjoy the spring weather, and purposely arrange it to avoid the busy Labour Day holiday traffic and its associated high demand for accommodation. This invariably means taking a Friday off work, but what better way to spend it!
We usually aim to spend both nights in the same place in order to off load our luggage, relax more and provide flexibility on the middle day to either visit some local attractions, or take it at your own pace.
Feel free to check out the photos of previous events below.
