The 2010 Classic Car Show
(Weekend of 14th & 15th August)

A good weekend event and I believe successful although we didn't come home with a prize, the members that participated enjoyed themselves and put the club out there. Hours of preparation and discussion went into the backdrop and a side wall that were built to hold the panels and then painted along with other items that we borrowed from a variety of places.

Show setup in progress

On Friday evening, before the setup, it started raining as we were loading the trailer and Barry decided he'd changed his mind and the car was staying in the garage! He got over it and drove to the show and the rain stopped just after he arrived!
The next challenge was that we found a fire hose reel in the middle of the wall where we wanted the backdrop picture which meant that a modification had to be made to the framing. I am pleased to say that this went well and the team solved the problem like true professionals. The stand was completed in a couple of hours after which we all adjourned to the Speights Ale House for a light meal (which was huge!), a drink and a natter.

A great display put on & a credit to the organisers.

Saturday went well with three teams manning the stand at various times. The only incident was a small child who saw Barry's car, escaped from her fathers clutches and ran 10 metres straight under the rope and slapped both hands on the car. Thankfully she didn't touch the newly painted bumper bar on the Elan but this did give Barry a bit of a turn.

Some of the other lovely cars on display

Sunday was a bit busier and 4pm came round, pack up team arrived, and we were all sorted and having a beer in Barry and Jans lounge by 7.30pm. There are people I'd like to thank, Barry & Jan for their huge effort and the use of the garage. Kit, George and Craig for the prep, set-up and pack up and manning the stand along with Stuart, Murray and Alan. A special thanks to Terry who brought his cabinet making skills for the framing, side wall and helping with the set up. The Theme for next year is "by the book" and I'm looking for a couple of different cars to represent the club and some ideas to go with the theme.
Regards Grant

My, what BIG eyes you have......
