This was another success story for the Southern Lotus Register with our display at the Vintage Car Club swapmeet at Mcleans island, Christchurch.

Saturday turned out to be a perfect sunny day with the swapmeet getting underway early and large crowds already there by 10.00am. Fortunately our members also got their cars out there early and we very quickly had in excess of 16 Lotus cars on display for the early crowd. A very pleasing turnout.

With caravan and BBQ etc, organised the day before, the stage was set for a pleasant, relaxed day for all. We munched our way through the usual heap of bangers and patties with a drink or two tossed down for good measure.

Interestingly, with the beautiful weather and the early start, the swapmeet quietened off about 3.30pm making it possible for Carol and I to have a relaxed meander around the complex (with drink in hand) and share the evening with other stallholders and display owners, etc. who were also relaxing after a busy day.

Sunday, although also a nice day, was not quite as hot as Saturday and took a while to get going. We still had a great turnout with about 14 cars on display. Australia's Bathurst 6 hour V8 motor race was also running on Sunday so this probably slowed the day down a bit crowdwise. Not that it stopped us. Our wee generator and TV in the our caravan ran all day. All in all a great weekend was had by all. A very sociable couple of days. To those who brought their cars out and helped make it a success -- Thank you all. Carol and I enjoy this weekend as we get to stay the night out there and find it a relaxing wee break.

Thanks also to Autotek for bringing out a couple of new Lotus cars for the public (& club members!) to view.

PS. This was a great week for our club: Sat/Sun; swapmeet, Monday clubnight; Slotcar evening (cool fun!), Wednesday; Lotus display in Cathedral Square, Thursday; drive round ex-Airforce Base Wigram racetrack, Friday; Depart for our own 3-day Trans Alpine Rally. What a week!! Fully Lotus'd out.

Cheers Kit (Assistant Grand Pooh Bah) and Carol.
