Auto Restorations Tour - November 2007

We had a great turn-out of club members to take in a tour of Auto-Restorations Ltd’s vintage and classic car restoration facilities located in Stewart Street, Christchurch.
Our host for the tour was Alan Stanton, General Manager, for Auto Restorations.
The company has a world renowned reputation for excellency in rebuilding veteran, vintage and classic cars to concurs-standard for happy customers. The cars sometimes arrive as little more than piles of rusty metal. The restoration can sometimes involve remanufacturing parts – even complete engines - that are missing from customer’s cars and no longer available from any other source. Often they have to make up purpose-built ‘jigs’ to facilitate the rebuild of vintage and veteran cars.
Alan guided us through the various work stations where individual or small groups of employees (the workforce now totals 26) were working on various projects. Along the way, he provided detailed information on what was happening to various automobiles.
Auto Restorations has an enviable range of tools and equipment - anything from English Wheels to Milling machines and Lathes in shop plus a well developed list of specialist suppliers who work closely with the Auto Restoration team to finish a car to the highest standards possible.
Interestingly, as a side-line, Auto Restorations take in and modify current production Ford LTD’s into hearses for the Funeral Director industry – they appear to be able to turn their hand at anything auto related!
The club would like to thank Alan Stanton for the excellent tour and for sharing his dedicated knowledge with our club.
