Car Run to Ashburton & Visit to Aviation Museum - September 2007

On Sunday, September 16th, the club did a run down to Ashburton to visit local member, Keith Pickford and view the Aviation Museum.
We met up at the Rolleston BP garage, the weather was superb and there was a good turnout of members. At Ashburton we enjoyed our picnic lunch in the sun at the airfield.

It's been a while since we've been to the museum but it's always great treat as there is something new to see every time. On this trip we reviewed the Ashburton chapter of the RNZAF with their very own Harrier Jump Jet! Better than our Air Strike Wing ever had!

Pilot Officer, Stuart P, and Weapon's Officer, Kit P, gave 'Jerry' (quite possibly the wrong war!) a hurry up in the Canberra bomber.

Many thanks to Keith for organizing the museum volunteers to show us around. They made the visit very informative and entertaining.

Interestingly we happened to coincide with the Porsche club having a day out there too. We tried to shoot them up with the Bofor's gun but couldn't get the gun elevation down low enough - more's the pity!

Some of us popped round to Keith and Linda's home afterwards to admire the car restorations in progress in Keith's very well equipped garage.

Thanks Carol for the write-up!
