TransAlpine 2006 - October 2006
Transalpine 2006 over the 3 days 27th to 29th Oct saw us run down to Tekapo from Christchurch. We assembled at Riccarton Race Course where gift packs and the competition sheets were handed out. With various items to be recorded on route navigators were fully involved. First stop was at Ashburton where we were joined by local members Keith and Linda and a few others that missed the start for various reasons. Temuka provided a lunch stop and then another catch-up at Pleasant Point while we waited for a V8 7 to have volts applied to the coil to make it mobile again before moving on to Tekapo. We dined together swapping stories and lies at one of the many restaurants. Day 2 saw us travel to Irishman Creek for a visit to the home of the Hamilton Jet Boat where we saw the history of the development of the modern jet unit and the machinery that made farming in this area less dependant of horses. It was then on to Mt Cook (the Hermitage to be more accurate) along one of the most modern roads built Lotus fans. When the rain arrived we left and hurried back to Tekapo. Dinner and prize giving followed. Sunday we met at The Church of the Good Shepard for a group photo and then through to the Geraldine Machinery Museum and a lunch break. A pleasant run back to Christchurch ended a great weekend.
