Club Christmas Function - December 2006
This year we booked a Christmas luncheon at the Kaiapoi Workingman's Club. We were honoured to host some overseas guests from the United States - namely, Gary and Barbara Bolin from Arkansas and their friends and traveling companions, Doug and Dawn Troutman from Oregon. Gary and Barbara own a beautiful Lotus Elan (one of only two Lotus cars in the entire State of Arkansas!) and have been over this way before. Their friends, Doug and Dawn, are first-timers to New Zealand and, as I understand it, Doug was a previous owner of the Bolin's Elan. Barbara is sight-impaired and was accompanied by "Keeper", her faithful Guide Dog. Quite how the 3 of them fit in an Elan back home peeks the imagination!
We had a good turnout of club members who enjoyed a nice meal with, it appears, plenty of good conversation. The venue appeared to gain the Seal of Approval from members and everyone had a good time. Towards the end of lunch, Kit Peverill drew everyone's attention to a trophy cup for Best Club Display won by our club at the recent Vintage Car Club Swapmeet event - well done everyone that helped out on the day! It is to be hoped that next years' events - including Christmas festivities - can maintain the same high standards as those of this past year. Gary, Barbara, Doug and Dawn - you are welcome back any time! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
