Our Club was invited to display our cars at a Wheels and Wings event held at Kirwee. This event was a fundraiser for the Sheffield Fire Brigade, St. John, and the DC3 Trust.
The weather in the past week had been really warm and sunny. Traveling out there on Sunday morning was cool and foggy and as we entered the grounds you could not see the end of the paddock. As I crossed the paddock heading for the aircraft the fog cleared to a perfect sunny day.
We were given a great spot to show our cars off, right beside a Harvard warbird aeroplane. In fact, so close that the pilot got us to help turn it around before starting it up. The considerate pilot was concerned about filling our cars up with grass (what a good bloke). Ahh the smell of 100 octane fuel!
The DC3 was doing flights all day and clubmember Pete Allen won a raffle for a free flight (well done Pete!). The aircraft kept us entertained all day and I think we were surrounded by at least 40 aircraft at the height of it all. I won't try and name them all as I am sure I would get some wrong.
It was a very enjoyable day out, with a lovely country feel about it. I don't know how many other Classic and Vintage cars were there but I am sure there several hundred. As a fund raising event I am sure it was a success and we are looking forward to it again in two years.
